Reflexology

The art of Reflexology dates back thousands of years to China, India and Ancient Egypt, but it was Dr William Fitzgerald who introduced it to the West as a therapy in 1913.
In the 1930’s Eunice Ingram developed this therapy further into what is known today as reflexology. She found that congestion or tension in the foot, was reflected in the same areas in the body.
Reflexology is a complementary therapy which involves a method of treatment using massage to reflex areas found in the feet; breaking down blockages, promoting energy to flow freely again and healing the damaged area .

Due to the extreme sensitivity of the feet, and after numerous studies, it was found they have more than 7000 nerve endings.

How will Reflexology help me?

This technique understands the human body as a whole and takes the form of a pleasant massage and lightly works over specific reflex points in the foot.
The treatment produces an increase in well-being, and relaxation is brought to all parts of the body, correcting energy levels; an energy balancing treatment.
If the body is in harmony, all levels of our being can be regenerated – body, mind and spirit.
Reflexology helps heal the whole person, not just the prevailing symptoms.

Numerous disorders seem to respond well to reflexology, these include:

Back pain
Migraine
Infertility
Arthritis
Sleep disorders
Hormonal imbalance
Sports injury
Digestive disorders
Stress-related conditions

Reflexology does not claim to be a cure, diagnosis or prescription

Hot Stone Massage

The Stones

The ancient healing art of stone massage is the method to achieve physical and spiritual balancing, by using the hot and cool stones. Through the various massage techniques, the body relaxes at its deepest level, effectively creating harmony and a positive energy flow.

The warm stones are basalt, created in the heart of the earth through volcanic activity, and the cool are primarily composed of metamorphic lime stone, or marble. As these mineral stones retain heat or cold they are perfect for Thermal therapy.
All levels are treated via the Stone massage – emotional, psychological and spiritual, balancing mind, body and spirit.

The Massage

The stones are used to massage or place on the body. The hot or cold temperature is transferred to the muscles, blood and lymph via the skin. This affects the whole body, internal organs, nervous system and energy centres. Cold increases the general metabolism and warm is sedative. Alternative use increases micro circulation and oxygen intake.
The direct heat creates sensations of comfort and warmth, whilst relaxing muscles, allowing manipulation of a greater intensity than with regular massage. The cooling marble stones help the body detoxify and heal. Alternating hot and cold causes your blood vessels to constrict and expand, pushing blood through your body, removing unhealthy toxins and waste products.

Swedish Massage

An age old world therapy practised before acupuncture and was extremely popular amongst the Greeks and Romans. Most of the Holistic therapists believe a regular body massage can liberate (free) emotional tension and subsequent physical health, gradually re-establishing the whole person to a balanced state of health. Reduces stress, both emotional and physical, and is suggested in a regular program for stress management. It also has many specific medical uses.
Massage is one of the oldest forms of therapy; it is a system of kneading, stroking and pressing different parts of the body. It relieves pain, stimulates, relaxes and tones.
If you want to wind down at the end of a long day; if you are feeling nervous or tense about a pending appointment, or want to get yourself ready for that special day or evening, a massage promotes relaxation as well as easing anxiety. Sharpening senses and leaving your skin looking naturally radiant and glowing. Regular massage makes you look and feel years younger with softer, healthier skin.
Swedish Massage works by applying deep pressure to muscles and bones and by rubbing concurrently with the circulation towards the heart. It has many health benefits, works the body and is specifically designed to relax muscles; enhance oxygen flow in the blood; get rid of toxins; stretch the ligaments and tendons; stimulate the skin and nervous system and soothe the nerves themselves at the same time.
An effective therapy which helps in overall wellbeing, Swedish Massage is not only relaxing but invigorating as well, while promoting health and wellbeing.

Reiki Healing
What is Reiki?

The word Reiki is made up of two Japanese words - Rei which means “universal" and Ki which is "energy". So Reiki actually means "universal energy".
Reiki is a Japanese technique for relaxation, stress reduction and also promotes healing. It is based on the idea that an unseen universal energy flows through us. If one's universal energy is low, then we are more prone to feel stress or get sick, but if it is high, we are more capable of being relaxed, content and healthy.
Reiki is a holistic treatment that treats the person as a whole including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing.
What is Reiki good for?
Reiki is excellent for stress-reduction, in alleviating anxiety and depression and treating pain from accidents or injuries.
Reiki has been shown to be very effective in helping illnesses ranging from colds to cancer by healing and detoxifying the body on a deep level. It works in conjunction with other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery.
Reiki is not a substitute for medical treatment, but will complement any medication or medical treatment you may be having. Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement. People of all ages from babies up can benefit from Reiki healing.
What happen with Reiki?
Usually Reiki is performed by you lying fully clothed on the couch. Then Reiki energy is channelled into you by a series of hand positions from the head down the body. Each position is just a light resting of the hands – no massage or manipulation.
However, Lucía offers her treatments by combining the amazing healing qualities of Reiki to any massage or Holistic Therapy that you choose. Please ring for more details.

Deep Tissue / Sports Massage

Massage is one of the oldest forms of therapy; it is a system of kneading, stroking and pressing different parts of the body. It can relieve pain, stimulate, relax and tone. Massage works the muscles under the skin, and depending on the type of massage, can also work the deeper layers of muscles as well. Massage also stimulates blood circulation and assists the lymphatic system to eliminate waste

Deep Tissue Massage is a massage technique that focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue. It releases the chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow strokes and deep finger pressure on the contracted areas. It is used to release chronic muscle tension through slower strokes and more direct deep pressure or friction.
Deep tissue massage usually focuses on more specific areas and may cause some soreness during or right after the massage. However, you will feel better than ever within a day or two. It is beneficial to your physical and mental health. When muscles are stressed, they block oxygen and nutrients, leading to inflammation that builds up toxins in the muscle tissue.
A deep-tissue massage helps loosen muscle tissues, release toxins from muscles and get blood and oxygen circulating properly, while relaxing and soothing the muscle. When your body feels less tense it follows that your mind will feel less tense as well. Deep tissue massage can get rid of your bad mood and make you less stressed and anxious. It is both corrective and therapeutic.
Sports Massage - The main purpose of sports massage therapy is to help alleviate the stress and tension which builds up in the body’s soft tissues during physical activity. Where minor injuries and lesions occur, due to overexertion and/or overuse, massage can break them down quickly and effectively. The massage will help prepare the athlete for peak performance, drain away fatigue, relieve swelling, reduce muscle tension, and promotes flexibility. Sports massage can help prevent those niggling injuries that so often get in the way of performance and achievement, whether a person is an athlete or a once a week jogger.

Lymphatic Drainage

If the lymphatic system becomes blocked, your system can become toxic, making you feel sluggish and more susceptible to viral or contagious diseases. Lymphatic drainage improves the metabolism, helping the body to eliminate waste and toxins and giving the immune system a boost.

Lymphatic drainage utilises a very light pressure combined with soft pumping movements in the direction of the lymph nodes, the lymphatic system then works more efficiently, which boosts the immune system, clears blockages, eliminates toxins, transports nutrients to cells and increases the metabolism.
As well as helping the body ward off illness, treatment improves:
The appearance of the skin, problem skin, cellulite, puffiness or swelling, common illnesses like colds and flu, pain from fractures and sprains and rheumatism, dysfunctional respiratory systems, low energy.
Lymphatic drainage should not be used by people with acute inflammation, malignant tumours, thrombosis or major heart problems. Because of its effect on the immune system, people with cancer, diabetes, thyroid or kidney problems, asthma or epilepsy should seek medical advice before treatment. It is also advisable that women do not undergo lymphatic drainage while menstruating.
